Mornings at Blackwater

yummy, healthy green river grass
"For years, every morning, I drank
from Blackwater Pond.
It was flavored with oak leaves and also, no doubt,
the feet of ducks.

And always it assuaged me
from the dry bowl of the very far past.

What I want to say is
that the past is the past,
and the present is what your life is,
and you are capable of choosing what that will be,
darling citizen.

So come to the pond,
or the river of your imagination,
or the harbor of your longing,

and put your lips to the world.
And live
your life."

From Red Bird, by my favorite, Mary Oliver

i love days like this

sunday in the rose garden

s. & i had the perfect sunday together. we got up and ran. it was such a gorgeous morning. then i ran to the grocery to get a few things for the week. i am trying a new recipe once a week, and today we get double duty....berry smoothies in our new blender for breakfast, and hot tamale burgers with sweet potato fries for dinner. yum and yum. because it was so gorgeous out, we decided to get outside before the rains came in, so we went to the garden to check on it and then over to the msu gardens to walk around.

then my sweet husband treated me to ice cream at the dairy store. so yummy. we got home just as the rains came in and passed over us. the rest of the day was saved for baking bread, making dinner, doing a couple loads of laundry, and now, picking a jane austen book to start reading. i do so much non-fiction reading, that i need to get into a good story.

soon, the laundry will be done and the kitchen cleaned up, i will take my nightly shower, put on clean pjs fresh out of the dryer, and cozy up on the porch with a good book. i love days like this.
